Old Anti-Semitism Is the New Green
My blogging has been scarce lately. Not that there haven’t been things to write about. It’s just that all the news is depressing.
On 13 September, Sweden held a general election where that now openly anti-Semitic Left Party became the fourth largest party in parliament. After numerous scandals with party members denying the Holocaust and celebrating Hamas’s terror attacks, people still gave this party record numbers of votes. Depressing.
| Party | Vote Share | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Social Democrats | 28.02% | 99 |
| Moderate Party | 19.85% | 70 |
| Sweden Democrats | 17.48% | 62 |
| Left Party | 8.40% | 30 |
| Centre Party | 7.03% | 25 |
| Christian Democrats | 6.17% | 22 |
| Green Party | 6.12% | 22 |
| Liberals | 5.34% | 19 |
Today, I read in the Jerusalem Post that the British Green Party has adopted a motion declaring “Zionism is Racism”. In the motion, passed by 1,022 votes to 813 at the party conference in Brighton, the Greens call for the eradication of Israel. While they pretend that this policy isn’t anti-Semitic, Daly Mail reports that they had to install “safe rooms” at the conference for Jewish members to hide in. It’s absurd—and depressing.
After the motion was adopted, the Greens five MPs sent a press realese afiring that they “will continue to work to ensure that the Green Party is an anti-racist party in every way”. Yeah, right. First we adopt a motion calling for the end of Jewish self-determination, and then we go public with a pathetic statment distancing ourselves from the party’s blatant anti-Semitism.
