The only news on everywhere in Denmark yesterday was the televised announcement from Margrethe II that she intends to leave her throne after 52 years. I like the Danish Queen. I’ve seen her a couple of times when she visited the Royal Opera House. She seems to share my taste for Wagner.

Sunday, 14 January 2024, will be her last day as monarch.

Shabbat Shalom

I know it’s too late. Shabbat is already here. 👍 Yay!

Shabbat Shalom

It’s Friday night. Time to bring out the candles.

Frederik X of Denmark

Today, in a few hours, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark will be king. People are gathering at the castle to celebrate this truly historic event. I’m stuck at the office, but follow the spectacle on news television.

Russia Cracks Down on Gay Community

The ink was barely dry on Russia’s decision to outlaw the gay-rights movement when masked police raided a bar in central Moscow, the Guardian reports. Not really surprising, but the irony is that Putin markets his assault on Ukraine as a war on Nazism, when, in fact, his politics is the most Nazi-like.

New Study Predicts Dramatic Decline in Family Sizes

In a new study, published by PNAS, a team of researchers present mathematical models alongside existing population records to calculate an average drop in family size of 35% by 2095.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

Man Sues Ex-Dates over Negative Facebook Reviews

“Nikko D'Ambrosio, 32, claims these women have harmed his reputation by posting negative comments about him on a private Facebook group where women talk abut their bad dates,” the Mirror reports.

The 2024 Oscar Nominations

Here’s the list from Hollywood Reporter. My guess is that Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon will be the big winners.

The Cluelessness of the Anti-Israel Movement

It’s not the first time, and won’t be the last. People on the left has a list of issues to feel strongly about, without knowing much—if anything—about them. It’s all image. From the Times of Israel:

Israel actress, model and director Noa Tishby, who is also a staunch advocate for Israel and previously served as a volunteer antisemitism envoy, aired footage from an anti-Israel protest at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday where she interviews protesters who appear to be clueless about the war against terror group Hamas.

Tishby goes around asking protesters at the event in Park City, Utah questions such as which river the infamous “river to the sea” chant calling for the destruction of Israel at such protests is referring to.

“For the river to the sea, Palestinians need to be free from the occupation,” one protester tells Tishby. “What river?” she asks. “I forgot the river’s name but the sea is the Red Sea,” says the protester.

That same protester says he thinks “Israel should be dissolved.”

Shabbat Shalom

It’s Friday night. Shabbat is upon us.
