Stop #ChatControl

Matthew Green on the European Commission’s “Chat Control”:

In practice, the Commission’s proposal—if it is implemented in production systems—invites a range of technical attacks that we simply do not comprehend today, and that scientists have barely begun to think about. Moreover, the Commission is not content to restrain themselves to scanning for known CSAM [Child Sexual-Abuse Media] content as Apple did. Their desire to target previously unknown content as well as textual content such as “grooming behavior” poses risks from many parties and requires countermeasures against abuse and surveillance that are completely undeveloped.

I agree!

A problem with everything EU is that many people think proposals from the Commission is enough for legislation to get through. It’s not how the EU works. If this goes through, it’s because our elected government ministers and MEPs vote in favour of the Commission’s proposal. If we allow this stupidity, it’s because we pick stupid people at the ballot box.

Good Friday, Hard Work

While most people in Europe rest on Good Friday, I’m at work, which is fine since it gives me extra money. The sun is shining in Copenhagen today.

Sun Outside the Window

The spring has arrived to Copenhagen. Look through the window from my workplace and wants to go outside. But people insist on getting injured abroad, so here I am, stuck behind a desk in an alarm centre.

Shabbat Shalom

Another week comes to its end. Now, Shabbat.

It’s the Scandinavian Spring

This is my favourite time of the year. The Nordic winter freeze leaves room for the heat of the sun. Trees are coming to life. Men put their shorts on, and the air fills with birds tweeting. I can see what the Romanticists saw in nature.

Dame Edna Everage 1934–2023

The first drag queen I know from television is gone. I liked Dame Edna as a boy, long before I know what a drag queen was.

The Transmission of Masculinity

A new study, published in Sex Roles, suggests that fathers spend more time with sons and that men learn how to be a man from their fathers. Not breaking news, but still an interesting read.

Waiting for the Alarm

I’m working the night shift. From 10pm to 7am. Normally, the phone doesn’t stop ringing, but now it’s been quiet for far too long. Time goes very slowly in an alarm centre when there’s not enough work to do.

Jerry Springer 1944–2023

He had the most ridiculous freak show on television, but it gave me some good laughs. Now he’s gone.

Shabbat Shalom

Work, work, work. No real Shabbat for me this weekend. 😒
