Shabbat Shalom

Yesterday, a I took part in a team-building event at Copenhill, a waste-to-energy plant and recreational facility in Copenhagen. It’s an odd building. One the roof, they have built ski runs, hiking trails, and a climbing wall. The view from the rooftop bar is amazing.

According to an article in Haaretz, the James Webb Space Telescope might actually debunk the theory that most people have recognised as truth.
It’s 11pm. I’m on a train heading for Malmö after an evening shift in Copenhagen. I go randomly through the news, but it seems my lifelong addiction to politics has been cured. Sweden‘s general election on Sunday is not something I ignore, it’s just that everyone is playing by the extremists‘ rules, and that makes me feel numb. The only reason I voted was to add some resistance to the fascists and communists. I’ve never felt this way the days before an election. It’s a good thing that my new job keeps my occupied.

She led an amazing life, spanning fifteen British prime ministers, from Winston Churchill to Liz Truss. Not to mention the numerous other ministers from countries where she was head of state. Elizabeth II died today at Balmoral Caste in Scotland. She was 96 years old.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Charles. Privileged as few others, he’s been so badly treated for much of his life, being blamed for the late wife’s misfortune and portrayed as an aloof snob only interested in conservation. I think there’s more to him than that. I see a man of conviction.
The final results from yesterday’s general election in Sweden is not determined yet, but one thing we know for sure, and that’s a huge turnout for the Sweden Democrats, a party rooted in neo-Nazism. I’m not against a centre-right government, but the problem is that it would need far-right support on every issue. Today, the main focus of the Sweden Democrats is immigrants, but we know that the party soon will intensify its campaign against Jews and gay people.
I travelled to Spain yesterday. Feels good to be back in my flat in Gran Canaria. It’s been a many weeks of new and intense work, so even though this will be a short break, my mind and body welcomes it.
It’s Friday evening… 🕯ï¸ðŸ•¯ï¸
After a very short visit to Spain, I’m now at the airport waiting for a flight to take me back to the north. I can’t say that I’m thrilled about it. I’m freezing already.

I worked today, so I missed most of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. But I caught glimpses of it and saw a recap when I got home. Very beautiful and moving. No matter how one views the monarchy, this was an end to an era in Britain.
I know, it’s a bit too late for this (the sun is down), but here it comes: שבת שלום.
