New York City Pride Organisers Ban Police from Parade

“Organisers of New York City’s Pride events say they will ban police and other law enforcement personnel from marching in their annual parade until at least 2025 and will also seek to keep on-duty officers a block away from the celebration of LGBTQ+ people and history,” the Associated Press and the Guardian write.

When I was a young gay man, I’d love a police walking for our rights. Now I’m ashamed to say that Pride parades have be overtaken by people with radical ideas against capitalism, police, well, everything. The average gay man is not really welcome anyone.

But maybe it’s not all bad. Cispeople and transwomen see Pride as an opportunity to discuss polices and identities. Gay men are more interested in hanging out and taking advance of new opportunities to have sex?
