Update: RFSU Says No to Circumcision Ban
On 3 May, Swedish gay magazine QX published an article by me where I urge Sweden’s gay-rights movement (RFSL) to oppose a ban on male circumcision at the annual general meeting of the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU), of which RFSL is a member organisation. Yesterday, the meeting had a vote and turned down the motions calling for RFSU to work for a ban. Good.
I realise that many people don’t like circumcision and would like the practice to go away, but I consider it a very important Jewish tradition that cannot be banned if we are serious about human rights, civil liberties, and freedom of religion.
