Love, Pride, and Shame in Jerusalem
Despite some death threats and violence from religious groups, the pride event in Jerusalem was a minor success. After some last-minute changes to the schedule, all but a few clashes with the police could be avoided.
A planned march through the city was cancelled due to new threats from religious fanatics, which made Rabbi Yehuda Levin, a member of a Orthodox organisation, happy. To a reporter from Reuters he said: “Today is a great victory for religious power. The sodomites are back in the figurative closet. They are not free to provoke.”
He’s right, so congratulations to all religious freaks who take pride in fighting civil liberties. May God have mercy on your souls.
Not far from where the religious fanatics now claim victory over ”the sodomites”, King David once praised his dead gay lover:
“I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women.” (2 Samuel 1:26)
If the ignorant of today really read the religious literature instead of adjusting their beliefs to historic prejudice against homosexuals, they would learn that many of the finest portrays of gay love are right in front of them.
