
- According to the first exit polls, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been beaten by the centre-left coalition lead by the former President of the European Commission Romano Prodi. This is good news since Mr Berlusconi is a man of bad judgements and extreme-right policies.
- The French government backs away from its plans to introduce a new employment law that would have made it easier for employers to hire and fire workers under the age of twenty-six. The mob got what it wanted, and French youth will face continued record-high unemployment rates. That is bad news. What is good though is that nobody deserves joblessness as much as they do.
