What the Iraqis Really Think
Via R. J. Rummel, Johan Norberg, and Stockholm Spectator I came to read the latest Iraq Index, dated 02/13/2006. Below I have copied some of the interesting answers given by Iraqis in an opinion poll. It is becoming clear to me that I was wrong in my opposition to the Iraq War and that the leftist ”peace activists” in Europe and North America lie when the claim that most Iraqis are unhappy about the removal of Saddam Hussein and the democratisation that fallowed. Rummel writes on his blog:
”Overall, on the statistics alone, we are winning in Iraq. Then when one includes that there have been two fair and competitive elections, a fair referendum on a written constitution, the selection of a new Prime Minister, and a successful organisation of a government, I argue that Iraq is a war and democratisation that is going well.”
I am inclined to agree with him. Things are—despite the many acts of terrorism—looking better that most left-wingers in mainstream media would like us to believe.
Q:
Do you think Iraq today is headed in the right direction?
A:
Overall = 64%
Kurds = 76%
Shiia = 84%
Sunni = 6%Q:
Thinking about any hardships you might have suffered since the US-UK invasion, do you personally think that ousting Saddam Hussein was worth it?
A:
Overall = 77%
Kurds = 91%
Shiia = 98%
Sunni = 13%Q:
What is your overall support for attacks?
A:
On US led forces = 47%
On Iraqi Government security forces = 7%
On Iraqi civilians = 1%
That is one Q&A I have not seen in any Swedish newspaper.
